Albuquerque’s Gruet Winery’s Brut has been named to one of the top wine lists of the year., one of the largest wine aficionado websites, has named the company’s non-vintage Gruet Winery Brut No. 16 on it’s list of Top 50 Sparkling Wines to Try Before You Quit Drinking.

“This wine often gets dismissed because of its lack of pedigree. For under $20, it is impossible to find a better, more satisfying dry sparkling wine,” the site said.

It’s the second feather in the Gruet cap this month. Wine Spectator magazine also gave the non-vintage Brut a rating of 89 points in its December issue.

Gruet is based in Albuquerque and has 26 to 30 employees, depending on the season, said Nels Becker, director of sales and marketing. This year, the company, the second-largest winery in the state, expects to sell 1.6 to 1.7 million bottles and ship 120,000 cases of its wine and sparkling wine. The company, started by Gilbert Gruet, started selling its sparkling wine in New Mexico in 1987.
